Who we are...

Hi! My name is Katy Bradley and I am a Resident Director at SNU. I have the best job in the world as I have the opportunity to constantly interact with incredible college students and share life together. 

Last year, our RA staff chose the theme "You're BEAUTIFUL" to decorate and use as a slogan throughout our residence hall  We based our theme on Psalm 45:11 "The King is enthralled by your beauty," and wanted to remind each resident of their true beauty in the Lord. 

Throughout the year we noticed, as most college campuses do, that students in our residence hall were suffering from negative self image, leading them to be in unhealthy and abusive relationships, suffer from eating disorders, and mask their insecurities with other destructive coping mechanisms.  In an effort to speak positive reassurance into our residents, we chose to create the “You’re BEAUTIFUL” bracelets.  We gave them to each resident and eventually to every female resident on the campus of SNU. 

It seemed as though wearing the bracelet became several things for these students. It gave them permission to feel beautiful. It empowered them to speak beauty into others. It became a conversation starter that for some led to seeking counseling for destructive behaviors.  I could never have imagined how the Lord would take our small desire and turn it into a huge impact. 

This has now become my HOLY DISCONTENT (a.k.a.- that thing that keeps me up at night thinking and the thing that I will pour my heart and soul into doing everything I can do to change). I want every human being to feel beautiful. To truly know and believe that the King is so ENTHRALLED by your BEAUTY.

So there it is…our story. I am grateful to my husband, Brett who has pushed and encouraged me to boldly get this truth out and supported me in so many ways and to the Hatley Hall 2010 RA Staff with whom I began this journey and THANK YOU for being a part of the journey J
